Our Town, February 10, 2005 Krueger Criticizes Transit CutsLiz Todd State Senator Liz Krueger blasted the Governor for creating a budget that calls for cuts to transit programs. “Governor Pataki’s retro capital plan echoes capital budget proposals of the 1970’s, and will likely lead to the deferment of basic maintenance, and a return to the chaotic conditions seen in the early 1980’s.” The Governor’s proposal, Krueger charged, also threatens the construction of other projects such as the proposed Second Avenue subway. Governor George Pataki proposed spending $19.2 billion for
the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s five-year capital program of
which he proposed $15.2 billion for the MTA Capital Core Program, which
addresses the basic infrastructure needs as well as regular maintenance and
upgrades. |
