Receives “Friends in High Places”
Award from Historic Districts Council New
York, NY – Last night, State Senator Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan) was
honored with the Friends in High Places award by the Historic
Districts Council (HDC) at their annual Grassroots Preservation
Awards. The award was presented by
David Freudenthal, the Treasurer of HDC, who hailed Senator Krueger as a
strong supporter of historic preservation, specifically noting her work with
the Murray Hill Historic District and the redevelopment of the Con Edison
Waterside Site. “It is
truly an honor to receive this wonderful award from such a distinguished
organization,” stated Senator Krueger. “Historic preservation is certainly one of the paramount
concerns that I hear about from constituents who reside on the East Side of
Manhattan. Since being elected to
office, I have been proud to work with the Historic Districts Council on several
preservation issues of great importance within the district.” HDC was founded in 1971 by the Municipal Art Society as a
coalition of community groups from New York City’s designated historic
districts--of which there were only 18 at the time--primarily to work on
special projects and networking. HDC
operates as a nonprofit organization with a small professional staff and a
working board dedicated to preserving the integrity of New York City’s
Landmarks Law and to furthering the preservation ethic. HDC is an independent, nonpartisan organization
not connected to the city government, to any other preservation organization
or to any individual neighborhood group, although they work with all of them. -30- |
