State Senator Liz Krueger Encourages

Constituents to Register to Vote

New York, NYState Senator Liz Krueger wants to remind all New Yorkers that in order to vote in this year’s election, mail-in voter registration forms must be postmarked by midnight, October 8th and be received by the NYC Board of Elections no later than October 13th to be valid.  Residents may register in-person at their county board of elections until the close of business on October 8th.

On November 2nd, voters will go to the polls to cast their votes in several important elections.  Candidates for President and Vice-President of the United States, U. S. Senate and all Congressional, State Senate and State Assembly seats will be on the ballot this year, as well as candidates for State Supreme Court in most judicial districts.

Voter registration forms are available at the New York County Board of Elections, as well as many post offices, libraries and state agency offices.  Internet users may download a registration form by clicking on the NYC Board of Elections website (http://www.vote.nyc.ny.us/register.jsp).  People interested in registering may also call 1-800-FOR-VOTE before Monday, October 4 to request a mail registration form.  Requests received by October 4th will be processed and the forms will be mailed to the caller's home or business address.  Requests received after October 4th will still be processed, but callers may not receive their form in time to register for this election.

In order to vote, you must: be a U.S. citizen, be 18 years old by the end of the year, not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction, and not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

For more information on registering to vote in New York City, visit the New York County Board of Elections at 200 Varick Street or call 212-886-2100.
